Rob Riddell has been playing guitar since high school, whenever that was. A major in music at Brown University, he went on to be a writer, editor, wanderer, and a few other things, but always carried that guitar around with him. He studied flamenco for a few years, and then fell in love with Brazilian music after meeting Christina. Rob lives in San Francisco.
Sonia Caltvedt started playing the flute at the age of nine, when she didn't know where Brazil was. A few years later, she moved to Latin America, and then to San Francisco, where she plays with Potingue, a Flamenco-Latin ensemble based in the Community Music Center, as well as this band, Bossa Five-O.
Joe spent a lot of time fitting horn lines into original garage band tunes in Davis and Berkeley before finally getting serious and moving to Wisconsin to pursue jazz standards in a small-combo setting. On that frozen featureless plain, ground into existence by glaciers during the Pleistocene, he was introduced to the lilting, breezy syncopation of the bossa nova, and has since sought ways to embellish it without detracting from its spartan elegance. He has never heard of Stan Getz.
Christina fell in love with bossa nova while at college in the cold state of wisconsin, where she was studying to be a classical oboeist. bossa nova introduced a whole new world to her, and changed the course of her life. she began studying portuguese, and after college traveled to brasil twice (the third trip is always in the works). she has been singing bossa nova now for 10 years.
Since her arrival in 1980 to San Francisco, Michaelle Goerlitz has been enjoying, absorbing and contributing to the Bay Area’s musical richness. She has played, recorded and toured with a variety of artists including Soul Sauce, the Snake Trio, Lichi Fuentes, rhiannon, Patrick Palomo, John Worley, Jami Sieber, Erika Luckett, Voz do Brasil, Novo Tempo and Dimitri Vandellos. She was also a founding member of Wild Mango.
